Computed tomography of the teeth

  • Deciphering images using artificial intelligence DIAGNOCAT
  • High-precision 3D dental diagnostics

Computed tomography of the dentoalveolar system is one of the most informative and reliable research methods in dentistry. The three-dimensional images taken by the CT scanner (sometimes we call this procedure "3D panoramic image") helps our dentists to make the right diagnosis and choose an optimal treatment for you.

DENTART clinic uses modern diagnostic equipment including a computer tomography scanner with advanced software for processing 3D panoramic images and obtaining accurate and informative pictures of your jaw and teeth. To make an appointment for a CT scan in Kyiv you just need to fill out an online form or contact our consultants by phone.

The main advantages of dental CT

The pluses of using a CT scanner in dentistry are:

  1. maximum informativeness. The imaging equipment we use is plugged in with special dental programs. They allow us to examine the bone tissues of the jaws and/or separate teeth as well as the entire temporo-facial region layer by layer. These panoramic images can be studied at any angle and in different projections. This feature is especially valuable in implantology, where it’s necessary to define the size, location and angles of the implants precisely.
  2. safety. CT emits minimal radiation making it possible to use it not only for jaw and teeth examination but also for treatment monitoring, even in children.
  3. accuracy. When other X-ray methods allow the projection distortions, CT scan excludes disparities in configuration and size. So it minimizes the risk of incorrect data interpretation.
  4. minimal time expenditure. The scanning procedure takes seconds and the subsequent reconstruction of the image takes up to half a minute.
  5. recording of the data to a digital medium so you can use it whenever you visit our dentists afterwards.

When am i recommended to get a ct scan of my jaw and teeth?

This type of examination is recommended:

  • when planning any type of dental treatment, including therapeutic, orthopaedic, surgical, orthodontic, etc.;
  • in cases of teeth, jaw or facial trauma;
  • when temporomandibular joints need to be checked;
  • for suspicion of occult caries;
  • for diagnosis of neoplasms and tumors;
  • for teeth and/or jaws development anomalies.

3D computer examination has no absolute contraindications. You have only to abstain from it if the patient is not able to stand and/or during serious mental disorders.

If you visit DENTART Clinic for the first time, schedule an appointment with a dentist. During the initial examination, the specialist will specify the type of imaging to do for an accurate diagnosis.

What does a dental ct scan show?

This examination helps our dentists to know such important things as:

  • number of roots and all the nuances of the dental canal structure for the effective treatment;
  • location of future implants without risk of nerve damage and/or other potential complications;
  • presence/absence of periodontal pathology;
  • bone condition;
  • tooth movement;
  • presence/absence of previous treatment errors;
  • inflammatory lesions in the mouth;
  • cracks in dental roots;
  • the presence of impacted wisdom teeth (third molars);
  • presence or absence of inflammatory processes in the maxillary sinus. Maxillary sinusitis is often the result of infectious teeth diseases.

A CT scan of the face provides important information for the other doctors as well. It helps identify neoplasms and provides the information needed to perform complex surgery on the face and/or ENT organs.

CT in implant planning

Computed tomography enables our surgeons and implantologists to analyze the condition of bone tissue where an implant is planned to be. A layer-by-layer 3D diagnosis eliminates the risk of errors during implantation and makes it possible to understand if the bone grafting is needed or if it is possible to place an "artificial root" right away.

The tomography enables us to assess not only the quantity but also the quality of the bone tissue. DENTART experts use this information to choose the best method of implantation and the right type of implants. In modern dentistry, it is better not to do an implantation without 3D computer imaging.

CT scan when in root canal treatment

Computed tomography is also recommended for patients before root canal treatment. CT scan helps us to determine the number of canals, their exact location and shape, and this is very important information when complex endodontic treatment is to be performed. If the doctor misses a single canal, there is a high risk of inflammation and other complications resulting in costly re-treatment.
