Initial appointment with a paediatric dentist
The first visit to paediatric dentistry in Kyiv is an important and responsible event that often determines the child's (and adult's) attitude to dental treatment and visits to dentists. During the initial appointment, it is necessary not only to examine the condition of the oral cavity, diagnose and treat the problem, but also to establish contact with the child, relieve the young patient of fears and stress. This is the approach taken by our paediatric dentists at the DENTART clinic in Kyiv.
If you are interested in dental treatment for children, please make an appointment for an adaptation visit and/or an initial appointment with us. You can do this online on the website or by contacting our consultants by phone.

What is an adaptation visit to the dentist and what is it for?
As practice shows, a child does not experience much fear or stress before his or her first visit to a paediatric dentist. Yes, slight nervousness and fears are possible, but no more. That is why a good specialist must make sure that the child easily adapts to the new environment and among strangers, relaxes, calms down and never fears dental treatment and visits to dental clinics in the future. This is why we offer an adaptation appointment at our clinic.
During such an initial appointment, our paediatric dentist not only examines the young patient's mouth and teeth, but also introduces them (and their parents) to the rules of care and prevention, and tells them about diseases such as caries. If the child is interested, the doctor can show him or her the tools used in the work, explain what they are for and how they work.
Because the adaptation visit takes place in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere, the child does not feel stressed or pressured. The doctor puts the young patient at ease, builds a trusting relationship between them, and subsequently, treatment and other dental procedures do not cause fear in children.
Things are a little more complicated when a child has already had some negative (unpleasant) experience of visiting a paediatric dentist. For example, if a child has already undergone complicated or painful dental treatment. In this case, adaptation may not be as quick and easy, requiring longer interaction between the doctor and the young patient. Ideally, you should not start direct therapy until the child has got rid of fears and stresses, otherwise there is a risk that this fear will not disappear and will accompany the patient into adulthood.
How does the initial appointment take place after adaptation?
If the adaptation is successful, dental treatment for children is practically no different from the work of a doctor with adult patients. First, diagnostics are required, and then therapy. The child or his/her parents can tell the dentist about complaints (if the child does not speak well yet). For diagnostics, our specialist at DENTART clinic in Kyiv examines the oral cavity and, if necessary, prescribes a targeted image.
Additional diagnostic procedures may be required if two or more teeth need treatment. Usually, in such a situation, it is recommended to perform an OPTG (panoramic image) or CT (computed tomography). If there are suspicions of bite problems, the doctor recommends visiting our orthodontist for a consultation.
Based on the examination or diagnosis, a treatment plan is drawn up, which may include various manipulations, namely:
- removing plaque;
- filling of baby teeth;
- endodontic treatment;
- protective coating of teeth with fluorolac;
- sealing of fissures;
- removal of baby teeth.

When is it worth making an appointment with a paediatric dentist?
It is recommended to visit our paediatric dentistry in Kyiv for the first time within a few months (up to six months) after the eruption of the baby's debut milk tooth. Subsequent preventive visits should be carried out every 4-6 months if there are no complaints. Children should make an appointment for dental treatment without delay in case of caries, injuries to dental units, as well as in case of suspected malocclusion, stomatitis, pulpitis and, of course, if the child complains of toothache.
