Dental treatment in children's sleep
Dental treatment for children is often a more responsible and complex procedure. Firstly, they are often afraid and cannot tolerate pain (although this is true of many adults too). Local anesthesia helps to eliminate pain and discomfort. Secondly, many babies are restless and don't understand why they have been put in the dentist's chair. This is where the usual dental anaesthetics can't help. This is what sleep dentistry is for. It is often practiced in paediatric dentistry.
Do you want your child not to be afraid of going to the dentist? Your child's treatment is not the quickest of procedures and you don't know what to do? Then contact our DENTART clinic in Kyiv. Among our services is dental treatment in your sleep. The child will simply fall asleep, and the doctor will correctly perform all the necessary dental manipulations — without unnecessary nervousness and the risk of mistakes.

Why is sleep dentistry suitable for children?
Sedation, that is, immersion in a drug-induced sleep, is especially effective for the dental treatment of young patients. This is the treatment of choice most often for pre-school and primary school children. It is patients in this age group who find it difficult to endure an extended visit, such as a root canal treatment or a tooth extraction.
Dental treatment under anesthesia is also shown to children (and adults) with fears and dentophobia — a panic fear of the dentist. By the way, medically induced sleep can be recommended for a child's debut treatment, so that he or she does not develop unpleasant associations with dentistry and definitely does not develop a real panic attack.
Dental treatment in sleep — is it safe for a child?
Safety has been proven in numerous tests, which is why, for example, in the USA most children under the age of 7 are treated in dental clinics in their sleep.
Other advantages of this method of treatment include:
- effective anaesthesia, so that the child will not feel pain, will not be frightened by the noise of the drill and simply will not experience any negative emotions;
- easy handling. The little patient can be woken up at any time, and shortly after waking up they can leave the clinic and go home;
- additional monitoring by our anaesthetist, who monitors the child's breathing rate, blood oxygen saturation, blood pressure and other vital signs during treatment.
Yes, dental treatment under anesthesia is a responsible procedure that requires high competencies, correct calculation of dosages and compliance with safety measures. At DENTART, we guarantee all this, so it's definitely better than trying to restrain your child by force or reassuring them with threats of punishment.
Preparation for sleep treatment and awakening
Before performing such dental treatment for children, an anesthesiologist is consulted. As a rule, the visit is scheduled on an empty stomach: you can not eat 6 hours before the procedure, and drink 4 hours before.
After dental treatment for children under sedation, awakening is easy. However, babies may be a little cranky at first because of the unusual sensations following dental treatment.
