How do periodontal pathologies develop?
Gingivitis is usually provoked by an improper oral hygiene. An accumulation of plaque on the teeth first causes irritation as well as inflammation of the gums. If you contact our specialists at this stage, it is easy to get rid of the problem - we will quickly remove the plaque and apply anti-inflammatory and/or antibacterial medication, if necessary.
If left untreated, the first symptoms of periodontal disease will soon appear, including occasional and minor bleeding of the gums. If this condition is left untreated, it can develop into a chronic condition. Paradontitis develops in the following way:
- A cavity (periodontal pocket) appears between the tooth and the gum, in which plaque and small particles of food accumulate. The pocket is shallow at first (up to 2-3 mm). It may cause discomfort while brushing and bleeding gums. It is an early stage of periodontal disease.
- The gums will then begin to shrink in size and shorten (recession), and the periodontal pocket will deepen (up to 5 mm). This will cause the root to be exposed, the teeth will become more sensitive and may become loose. This is the intermediate stage.
- If the pathology progresses further, the root is exposed even more and the teeth become more wobbly. Pus accumulates in the periodontal pockets, cleaning becomes very painful and the risk of losing the tooth is high.
Periodontics and the diseases it specialises in
Typical periodontal pathologies include periodontitis and gingivitis. Our periodontists are also ready to help with the treatment of stomatitis, another very unpleasant disease.
These conditions can be caused by various factors ranging from genetic predisposition to weakening of the immune system or improper bite. In practice, however, the most common causes of gum disease are poor hygiene and an unfavorable oral bacterial environment. This is why the best way to prevent gingivitis and other periodontal problems (and the first step for treatment) is to have your teeth professionally cleaned. You should undergo a professional cleaning at our clinic in Kyiv at least twice a year, even if you don't have any tooth and/or mouth complaints.
Gingivitis treatment
Gingivitis is an inflammatory gum disease that many people experience, including young people, pregnant women and teenagers. It is caused by plaque that appears due to improper (insufficient) hygiene. Less commonly, it is caused by a weakening of the local or general immune system and hormonal imbalances. Gingivitis does not affect the integrity of the junction of the tooth and gums, but it is dangerous because without treatment it can develop into a far more serious problem - periodontitis.
The symptoms are redness and swelling of the gums, bad breath and slight bleeding.

Treatment of periodontitis
This is also an inflammatory disease, but it primarily affects the periodontal junction and causes its destruction. The main risk of periodontitis is tooth loss. The disease is often a consequence of a complication of gingivitis. More bleeding accompanies its manifestations, pus may be excreted and the teeth may become loose.
For treatment, we perform a professional cleaning at the periodontist's office of our clinic. Home care and hygiene are also prescribed. In case of an exacerbation of the disease, a curettage of the periodontal pockets may be necessary - a procedure to remove pus, hard gum deposits and necrotic tissue.
Stomatitis treatment
Stomatitis is an inflammatory pathology affecting the oral cavity. In addition to redness of mucous membranes, the disease is accompanied by painful ulcers on the gums, loss of appetite, and sometimes an increase in body temperature.
Treatment of stomatitis depends on the causative agent. The most common pathogens are bacteria, viruses or fungi. In all cases our doctors perform hygienic cleaning, and then prescribe medication to eliminate the pathogens. The diet is also corrected.
