Treatment of periodontitis in Kyiv

Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of the periodontium, i.e. the tissues near the root of the tooth (gum, ligamentous apparatus and bone tissue) that are responsible for its secure fixation. Inflammation often leads to swelling and redness of the gum. In the future, periodontitis can provoke purulent processes in the deeper parts of the jaw, which is accompanied by severe pain.

Causes of periodontitis

The main factors that provoke periodontitis include the following:

  • neglected caries or its poor-quality treatment;
  • untreated pulpitis, in which the dental pulp is no longer able to perform its protective function and does not prevent infections from spreading beyond the apex of the tooth root;
  • trauma, including repetitive trauma. This cause of periodontitis is common in some athletes, including hockey players and boxers.

Manifestations of periodontitis

The symptoms of this inflammatory disease depend on its form. Periodontitis can be acute and chronic. In the first case, characteristic manifestations include:

  • severe pain that may increase or turn into aching;
  • a feeling of tumescence (caused by increased pressure in the periodontium);
  • inability to touch the tooth;
  • swollen gums (your cheeks and lips may also be swollen).

Chronic periodontitis usually differs in its symptoms. The severity of the symptoms depends on the stage of the disease:

  • initial or fibrotic - pain is minimal and occurs only occasionally;
  • granulating - pain is permanent, there is swelling of the gums, and there may be purulent inflammation;
  • granulomatous - pus-filled cysts and granulomas appear in the gum and bone tissue.

Without treatment, periodontitis actively progresses, so don't delay a visit to our specialists. A nidus of infection as a result of various factors, including stress or hypothermia, can proliferate actively, causing complications. Among the latter, osteomyelitis, which causes purulent necrotic processes in the jaw, is one of the most dangerous.

Diagnosis and treatment of periodontitis in DENTART

It will take several visits to our dentists to get rid of the disease completely.

First, with periodontitis, infected tissues must be removed, for which an autopsy and cleaning of the tooth channels is performed, including using a microscope. Then antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs are injected intra-channel. In periodontitis, medication can be injected into the root canal several times until the inflammation subsides.

Then the root canals have to be filled, and this is the most important step. To achieve filigree precision, we carry out this procedure under a microscope. After the root canals have been filled, the crown of the tooth must be restored.

If these tooth-preserving tactics for periodontitis don't work, the tooth usually has to be removed. Our specialists then restore the bone and perform implantation and prosthetics.
