Treatment of tooth canals in Kyiv
Endodontics is a specialised field of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of dental canals. This is one of the most complex areas of dentistry, where the role of quality work (canal cleaning, filling and crown restoration) is particularly important. Any mistake is fraught with inflammation and can lead to early tooth loss.
The DENTART clinic in Kyiv employs highly specialized specialists - endodontists. They have a wealth of experience in root canal treatment, relying on world-class standards in their work: they use cofferdams, magnification optics, top-class restorative materials, and the most effective and proven treatment protocols. Our doctors are ready to help even in the most difficult situations when re-treatment is required.

When is endodontic treatment required?
It is necessary to treat root canals when:
- complications of caries;
- dental injuries;
- preparation for prosthetics. Only a well-treated and properly filled tooth can become a secure support for various prosthetic structures such as bridges, crowns, etc.
Endodontic treatment of pulpitis
In cases of infectious pulp damage, removal followed by endodontic treatment is typically performed. First, an X-ray is recommended, after which our DENTART dentists isolate the tooth with a rubber dam, remove soft tissues and the neurovascular bundle. Then, tooth canal cleaning is mandatory - both mechanical and medicinal, followed by filling the canals with gutta-percha. All procedures are performed under magnification - using a dental microscope. After endodontic treatment, tooth restoration is carried out, which can be done using photopolymer composite materials or prosthetic structures.
The duration and cost of pulpitis treatment depends on the number of canals, as this directly determines the complexity and labor intensity of the procedures.
Endodontic Treatment of Periodontitis
The general principles of endodontic treatment for periodontitis are similar to those for pulpitis. Canal filling followed by restoration is also required here. However, in some cases, our Kiev dentist needs to perform root canal revision under a microscope to decide on the course of action. Also, in cases of periodontitis, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial medications are introduced intracanally to eliminate infection, and these procedures may need to be repeated several times, which is why initial canal filling is done using temporary fillings (usually calcium hydroxide). Once the inflammatory process is completely eliminated, filling with a hot gutta-percha system is performed, and the optimal restoration method is chosen - either photopolymers or a crown.
The duration and cost of periodontitis treatment is determined by the stage of the disease and the number of canals, as these directly affect the complexity and labor intensity of the dentist's procedures.
Why should root canals be treated in DENTART?
We carry out each stage of root canal treatment in accordance with international endodontic standards. Our advantages include the following:
- Accurate preliminary diagnostics, including the use of a CT scanner for a three-dimensional image. It will show the size and number of roots and the degree of curvature of the canals.
- Treatment under a microscope. The use of optics allows for perfect mechanical cleaning of the root canals, preserving as much healthy tissue as possible and avoiding filling errors.
- Using a cofferdam to isolate the problem tooth, protect the oral cavity from trauma, and protect the fillings from saliva and moisture, which can affect their lifespan.
- Application of effective anaesthesia with rapid recovery after canal treatment is completed.
- We can fit a crown, as root canal treatment is an indication for this prosthetic procedure.
Accurate diagnosis in endodontics
At our clinic, we place great importance on pre-diagnosis, without which effective canal treatment is simply not possible. So, all dental roots are very individual. Although there is a generally accepted pattern of one root canal in incisors, two in premolars and three in molars, it is very common to see additional canals in practice. Their shape also varies greatly: they can be thin or thick, long or short, more or less convoluted, with steep curves, sclerosed, etc.
Computed tomography (CT) makes it possible to determine the number of roots and canals, their location and other features. This information allows us to perform a quality endodontic treatment and eliminate the risk of errors.
Root canal treatment under a microscope
The use of a dental microscope has also become the gold standard when it comes to endodontic treatment. We also use magnification at DENTART. Without it, high-precision action in dental canals would not be possible.
Performing all treatment manipulations under the microscope offers the following advantages:
- thorough cleaning of the canal and all the hard-to-reach places in it;
- preservation of healthy tooth tissue to the maximum extent possible;
- removal of restorative material and/or broken instruments from the root canal (relevant in cases of retreatment);
- minimizing the risk of inflammatory processes and other complications.
The cost of root canal treatment at our clinic includes both mechanical and medicinal treatment, subsequent filling with thermoplastic gutta-percha, aiming scans and restoration of the crown with a filling material. Also, after canal treatment, we recommend our patients in Kyiv to protect the tooth from subsequent destruction by installing a crown.
Using a cofferdam for root canal treatment
The modern standard of root canal treatment is the use of latex isolation of problematic teeth from the rest of the dentition. A cofferdam (or rhabberdam) is used for this purpose. Such insulation offers the following benefits:
- You feel more comfortable during the procedure. The protective sheet gives the impression that the practitioner is performing the manipulation somewhere else, not in your mouth. It also allows your tongue to take on a natural position, you relax and begin to breathe normally. The positive effect of such isolation is even more pronounced in cases where the patient has a strong gag reflex.
- Protection of the oral mucosa from accidental damage, both mechanical and chemical, as various medication solutions are used during treatment.
- Isolation of the tooth in which canals are being treated from saliva and moisture. Any liquid has a negative effect on adhesion, i.e. the bonding of the restorative material to the tooth surface. Latex flap allows you to increase the durability of the filling.
- Protection of the respiratory tract from the medicines and solutions used in canal therapy.
- Additional antimicrobial protection and keeping the work area clean.
