Remineralizing therapy

Our teeth are protected by a very strong natural shell —dental enamel. But even the enamel does not guarantee 100% protection from damage and is susceptible to negative influences. The first warning signs of its weakening are increased tooth sensitivity and an increase in dental caries problems.

Do you want your enamel back to its original strength? If so, we at DENTART Clinic in Kyiv are ready to offer you a remineralisation service. We "saturate" the hard tissues of the teeth with the necessary mineral components, including calcium and fluoride (we perform fluoridation). This will restore their natural structure and protect them from negative influences.

"TEETH REMINERALIZATION AT DENTART

Remineralisation can be performed as a separate procedure or as the final stage of a complete professional hygiene treatment. In the latter case, first the hard deposits are removed by ultrasound, then AirFlow cleaning, and then the remineralising treatment is carried out.

Remineralisation itself involves applying special compositions containing fluoride (fluoridation) and calcium to the teeth.

Remineralization includes the following stages:

  • preliminary removal of hard and soft dental deposits;
  • thorough drying of teeth;
  • application of a fluoride-containing solution, gel or cream.

The number of such procedures is determined by the attending physician in accordance with the indications.

An alternative to the application of preparations at the dentist's office can be the wearing of special drops containing fluoride gels. This remineralisation therapy can be carried out at home.

Why might enamel remineralisation be necessary?

Tooth enamel is subject to constant negative influences, so the gradual process of mineral loss (demineralisation) is almost inevitable. Acids are particularly damaging to enamel, and these get into our mouths with food and are excreted by the bacteria that form plaque.

Normally, saliva should neutralise this negative effect. It is responsible for an optimum acid-alkaline balance. However, an excess of carbohydrates and certain diseases provoke an imbalance towards an acidic environment, which is why remineralisation of tooth enamel is required.

The loss of mineral substances in tooth enamel can also be caused by other factors, namely:

  • due to the deficiency of fluoride, calcium and other minerals;
  • during pregnancy and breast-feeding;
  • due to taking certain medications;
  • due to a hereditary factor, etc.;
  • due to poor home hygiene.

When is remineralising therapy recommended?

The main indications for enamel restoration include:

  • hypersensitivity of the teeth;
  • the presence of enamel damage (cracks, chips, etc.);
  • pregnancy and lactation (for prevention);
  • teething;
  • early caries (spot stage);
  • pathological tooth abrasion;
  • fluorosis (excess fluoride in the body).

Remineralisation is also recommended after wearing braces, as these can have a negative effect on tooth enamel.

Remineralising therapy is not indicated in chronic metabolic disorders, including kidney disease and thyroid disorders. Fluoridation is also not performed if you are hypersensitive to the preparations used in the procedure.
