Bite problems we treat at DENTART
Orthodontic treatment process at DENTART
Orthodontic treatment in Kyiv at DENTART includes the following stages:
Everything you need to know about aligners: is there any discomfort? How long should they be worn?
The process of fitting aligners is painless. Unlike braces, aligners provide only smooth surfaces, so they do not rub the mucous membranes of the oral cavity. They also cannot damage the cheeks or scratch the tooth enamel.
Mild discomfort from the aligners is possible only during the getting used phase - usually in the first day or two after starting to wear them. Most often, it is just a feeling of a foreign body or light pressure on the teeth (after all, aligners are supposed to make the dental units move - to align). In general, the effect of aligners is considered to be milder than that of braces, so we have not encountered any patient complaints in our practice.
The total period of treatment with aligners depends on the existing orthodontic problem - the bite defect of a particular patient. On average, the results are achieved within 10-12 months, sometimes the total period of wearing aligners increases to 1.5 years. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that effective and fast teeth alignment can be achieved only if the aligners are worn on the patient's teeth for at least 22 hours a day (i.e., they are removed only for oral hygiene and eating).

The whole truth about braces: how long and how much does it hurt?
Braces by our specialists will not cause you pain. After installation, and then when the bars are changed, there may be slight discomfort, but this disappears as you get used to it. The reasons for this are:
- with external systems, we place an element on each tooth that touches the mucous membranes of the cheeks and lips. At first, these contacts can either get in the way when talking, chewing food, or being a bit of rubble. Afterwards, however, the sensitivity decreases and the discomfort disappears;
- in the groove of the braces, we insert an arch which changes the bite by edging the teeth. These arcs are periodically changed and take a few days to a week to get used to after the change.
The total time you wear the braces depends on the speed at which the teeth move in the bone. Upper teeth move faster (up to 0.8 mm monthly) and lower teeth slower (0.3 mm). This information allows doctors to make predictions about wear, but it’s all individual. On average, the systems should be worn for around 1-2 years.
Why do adults need to have their teeth altered?
It is a mistake to think that a wrong bite is merely an aesthetic problem. There are enough reasons to treat it regardless of age:
- uneven teeth often cause migraines, headaches, clicking or painful sensations in the jaw when eating, and can cause tinnitus;
- overlapping (excessive closeness) of teeth and other orthodontic problems interfere with proper oral hygiene. This results in plaque and tartar, and increases the risk of tooth decay and periodontal inflammation;
- malocclusions and/or abnormal positions of the teeth speed up tooth abrasion. Besides aesthetic problems, it causes excessive sensitivity to hot or cold foods, sweets, acids, etc;
- bad bites often cause problems with pronunciation (diction is affected).
How is an adult’s bite corrected?
There are two ways to correct a bad bite:
- wearing braces. This is the most common option. Both vestibular (those fixed on the outside of the tooth) and lingual (hidden on the inside) solutions are used. Our brace systems are also available in different materials (ceramic, metal or sapphire) and fixation types (ligature and Damon, i.e. self-ligating);
- use of individual clear polymer mouth guards (Aligners). This method is suitable for individual adults, allowing them to have their bite corrected without traditional braces.
What will a bite correction at DENTART do?
Orthodontic treatment at our clinic in Kyiv will ensure:
- beautiful, straight teeth, which will finally make you not be ashamed of his smile;
- getting rid of headaches, various problems with the nasopharynx and ears, discomfort in the neck area;
- improvement of the digestive system, including elimination of unpleasant odours;
- positive external changes and slowing down of ageing: after a bite correction, the profile and oval of the face and the shape of the lips are transformed;
- relief from psychological problems and complexes.
-
Can bite problems be corrected in adulthood?
Yes. Modern orthodontic systems — including braces and clear aligners — make it possible to correct bite issues at virtually any age. Successful treatment requires healthy teeth and gums, as well as sufficient bone support. Orthodontic treatment for adults improves not only smile aesthetics, but also helps prevent TMJ disorders, uneven enamel wear, and other functional complications.
-
What is a malocclusion and how does it affect overall oral health?
Malocclusion refers to improper alignment or contact between the upper and lower teeth, or incorrect positioning of individual teeth within the dental arch. While many patients initially seek treatment for aesthetic reasons, bite disorders can also lead to accelerated enamel wear, tooth fractures, gum problems, difficulties with oral hygiene, jaw joint discomfort, and an increased risk of cavities.
-
How long does orthodontic treatment for adults usually take?
The average duration of orthodontic treatment for adults ranges from approximately 1.5 to 2.5 years. Treatment time depends on the complexity of the case, the chosen orthodontic system, and individual biological factors affecting tooth movement. Minor aesthetic corrections may take less than a year, while more complex bite disorders may require longer treatment followed by a retention phase to stabilize the results.
-
What is the best age to start orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment is generally easier during adolescence, when the jawbones are still developing and more adaptable. However, modern orthodontics allows effective bite correction in adults of all ages — including patients in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and beyond. In most cases, the best time to begin treatment is simply as early as possible.
-
Is orthodontic treatment with braces or aligners painful?
Orthodontic treatment is not considered painful in the traditional sense, although temporary discomfort or pressure is common — especially after appliance placement or routine adjustments. Clear aligners are often perceived as more comfortable because they do not contain metal elements that may irritate the soft tissues.
-
Can teeth shift back after treatment if retainers are not worn?
Yes. Without proper retention, teeth naturally tend to move back toward their original positions over time. Retainers are an essential part of orthodontic treatment because they allow the surrounding bone and soft tissues to stabilize and adapt to the corrected alignment.
-
Are there contraindications for braces after the age of 30, 40, or 50?
Age itself is not a contraindication for orthodontic treatment. However, certain medical or dental conditions may limit treatment options, including active gum disease, severe bone loss, uncontrolled systemic diseases, immune disorders, or significant tooth loss. Each case requires comprehensive diagnostics and individualized evaluation.
-
Does DENTART offer interest-free installment plans for orthodontic treatment?
Yes. DENTART offers flexible installment payment options through Monobank and PrivatBank. These programs typically allow patients to divide the total treatment cost into equal monthly payments without additional interest or hidden fees, making long-term orthodontic treatment more financially convenient.
-
What is included in the cost of orthodontic treatment?
The cost of orthodontic treatment generally includes the orthodontic system itself — braces or aligners — along with scheduled adjustment visits throughout treatment. Initial diagnostics such as CBCT imaging and digital scanning, preparatory dental treatment, professional hygiene, micro-implants (if needed), and retainers may be billed separately depending on the treatment plan.
-
Does the orthodontist guarantee treatment results?
Orthodontic treatment at DENTART is performed according to modern clinical protocols and is carefully planned to achieve predictable functional and aesthetic results. Treatment success depends on close cooperation between the orthodontist and the patient, including compliance with appointments, appliance wear instructions, oral hygiene recommendations, and the retention phase after active treatment is completed.
-
Can orthodontic treatment be combined with dental implants?
Yes. Orthodontic treatment and dental implants can be combined when properly planned. In most cases, bite correction is completed before implant placement. However, in certain situations, implants may be placed earlier if they are needed to support orthodontic tooth movement as part of the treatment strategy.
