Implantation with complete absence of teeth (complete adentia)

  • We handle the most complex dental cases
  • 100% guarantee

Not so long ago, with the complete absence of teeth (adentia), the only solution in dentistry was considered a removable prosthesis. But it negatively affected the overall quality of life and emotional state of a person, caused discomfort in the process of chewing food, could affect diction. In addition, the denture needs corrections and, at intervals of a few years, replacements, and it is visually different from natural teeth.

Fortunately, the problem of missing teeth is now solved by implants, which do not have all the disadvantages mentioned above. You can have your implant prosthetics done in Kyiv at DENTART. Do you want to know the details? Make an appointment with our implant surgeons now.

What does our clinic offer for total adentia implants?

  1. We use modern techniques, including "All on Four" (prosthesis on 4 implants), fixed bridge on 6 implants, total (or full) implantation.
  2. We offer the services of the best Ukrainian implant surgeons, who not only practice, but also regularly improve their competence.
  3. We carry out high quality diagnostics using CT scans. Three-dimensional imaging allows you to assess the condition of the oral tissues and remaining teeth, to choose the best method of implantation and/or to plan the necessary pre-treatment.
  4. We use implants from proven manufacturers, including the Swiss Straumann and American Nobel Biocare.
  5. We carry out anti-stress treatments: the implants are placed as comfortably as possible, including sleep treatment (deep sedation).
  6. We will do a non-surgical implantation. It is also called an atraumatic or transgingival procedure, in which the implant is not placed into the bone (as with the traditional approach) but into the soft tissue, which does not involve additional gum incisions and subsequent suturing.

What implantation methods are used at DENTART for edentulous teeth?

If all teeth are lost, our doctors in Kiev can use the following implantation methods:

1
“All on four"

Prosthetics on 4 implants using a fixed or removable structure. The denture is fixed on a quadruple implant placed on both the lower and upper jaw. The All-on-Four method is the least expensive financially and is recommended in situations where the patient has a bone deficit in the area of the masticatory teeth.

2
"All on 6"
The All-on-6 protocol involves the installation of a fixed prosthesis supported by six implants in a single stage procedure: a temporary prosthetic structure is immediately fixed following implantation. The 'All-on-6' implantation is a more reliable method than All-on-4, as the additional implants help to distribute masticatory forces more evenly.
3
Zygoma Implantation
An innovative approach for patients with pronounced bone tissue atrophy. The implants are anchored not in the jawbone but in the zygomatic bone, which has high strength and density. This eliminates the need for bone grafting and sinus lifting procedures, significantly reducing treatment time. A temporary prosthesis can be installed on the day of surgery, providing the patient with immediate aesthetics and functionality following the procedure.
4
Complete or Total Implantation
Each missing tooth is replaced with its own individual implant, followed by the placement of ceramic crowns. Both upper and lower arches receive between 8 to 12 implants, thereby restoring a complete dental arch. Bone grafting may be required beforehand. This method is considered the most aesthetic, durable, and functional, but it is simultaneously the most expensive and time-consuming.

The main advantages of implantation in the complete absence of teeth

The key advantage is the reliable fixation of prostheses, since implants act as their support. Other strengths of implantation in the absence of teeth include the following:

  • preservation of bone tissue. It does not become thinner with the insertion of implants, as is the case with conventional removable dentures, in which the structure presses and thins the bone;
  • high-quality, painless and comfortable chewing of food;
  • aesthetic appeal. After prosthetics on implants, the dentition cannot be distinguished from the natural one.

How are implants for complete edentulism performed?

High-quality dental restoration is not possible without proper treatment planning, and the ultimate success is determined by how professional the implant surgeons and other members of our clinic team are.

01
Preparation and diagnostics
Our specialists assess the bone volume, identify hidden inflammatory foci that require pre-treatment, and select the optimal implant length and diameter.
02
Functional restoration
Determination of the bite height and manufacture of a custom temporary structure.
03
Tooth implantation
Can be carried out using either the classic method or the transgingival method, is carried out with punctures according to a template, without additional gum incisions for implant placement and subsequent suturing.
04
Prosthetics tooth
First, temporary structures are fixed, which will allow the patient to get used to a new dentition and learn how to chew food. Then it's time for permanent ceramic teeth.

Contraindications for implantation in the complete absence of teeth

  • malignant tumors of the most important internal organs;
  • serious blood diseases;
  • chronic stomatitis and other oral mucosal diseases;
  • diabetes mellitus.

These diseases are not an absolute contraindication for the "non-surgical" method when in remission. But this procedure also has limitations: it is not used if there is not enough bone for implants.

The doctors at our DENTART clinic in Kyiv decide on the feasibility and method of implantation individually.

Questions and answers
  • How many implants are needed for a full jaw?

    It depends on the protocol that’s right for you. With the All-on-4 concept, you need 4 implants per jaw; with All-on-6, you need 6. With total (tooth-for-tooth) implantation, each missing tooth is replaced by its own implant—typically 8–12 titanium dental posts per jaw. The choice of protocol depends on bone condition, budget, and other factors.

  • Which protocol is best for complete tooth loss?

    There’s no one-size-fits-all answer—it’s individual and based on your clinical situation and goals. All-on-4 is generally the most budget-friendly; full individual replacement is the most expensive. In cases of bone atrophy, zygoma implants may be the best option because they avoid bone grafting. Overall, All-on-6 often provides a balanced trade-off between reliability and cost, but indications and contraindications still apply.

  • Will I feel pain during full-arch implant treatment?

    No. The procedure is performed under anesthesia (local anesthesia and other modern anti-stress methods). At DENTART, we can also use nitrous oxide inhalation analgesia or deep sedation (“sleep dentistry”) when needed.

  • How long does full-arch implantation take?

    The surgical placement of the required number of implants typically takes around 2 hours (sometimes longer). The entire restoration process for complete edentulism usually takes 3–6 months, including pre-treatment preparation and delivery of the final prosthetic restorations.

  • What are the risks of full-arch implantation?

    As with any surgery, risks exist—implant failure, inflammation, or delayed issues such as peri-implantitis. With precise surgical work and careful adherence to post-op instructions, complications are rare. We also provide a treatment guarantee: in the unlikely event of failure (probability 1–2%), we perform re-implantation at no charge.

  • What’s the proper care for implants in cases of toothlessness?

    Oral care is similar to routine hygiene: brush twice daily, use floss, interdental brushes, or an irrigator to remove plaque and food debris. Schedule professional hygiene every 6 months at our clinic. Additionally, reduce excessive bite loads—avoid very hard foods—and give up harmful habits, especially smoking.
