Clasp dentures
A special arch characterises removable partial denture prostheses that are a supporting element. They help compensate for the absence of several teeth (partial adentia) or complete adentia (with implants).
Although this type of restoration is not considered a priority in modern dentistry (DENTART dentists today prefer bridges and implant prostheses), partial denture restorations are still used sometimes. In their favour are high strength and reliability, affordable price and acceptable aesthetics (especially for the telescope crown bar).

Variations of partial dentures
Braces are classified according to the method of fixation. The following types are distinguished:
Indications and limitations for the use of partial dentures
Implants and fixed prosthetics, including bridges and crowns, are now considered the most preferable options for the restoration of lost teeth. But if there are contraindications and in a number of other situations, the clasp denture can also be an optimal or compromise solution.
Indications are:
- the absence of 2-3 teeth next to each other;
- unilateral adentia;
- increased abrasion of the teeth;
- malocclusion in cases of full adentia (partial denture combined with an implant).
Orthopedic dentists in Kyiv do not use partial dentures for:
- deep bite;
- poor fit or condition of the supporting teeth;
- other conditions, including inflammatory diseases of the mouth, serious diseases such as diabetes or cancer.
The advantages of clasp dentures
The distinguishing feature of this construction is the bar, i.e., a special arch that acts as a supporting element. It is attached to the existing supporting teeth and allows redistribution of chewing loads. An artificial gingiva and a crown made of ceramic or metal-ceramic are also attached to this arch.
The strengths of the clasp structures include:
- reliable fixation. They do not shift when chewing food and during conversation;
- a short period of adaptation: taste and speech (diction) do not change;
- equal distribution of the chewing loads: besides the supporting teeth, some loads "go" to the gums and bones;
- acceptable appearance. Telescopic partial dentures are more aesthetically pleasing. They are not noticeable compared to their clamp or attachment counterparts;
- relatively easy to use: the clasp denture can only be removed for special hygiene procedures;
- durability from 5 to 10 years;
- affordable price compared to implantation (savings up to 50-100%).
