Lumineers are ultra-thin (up to 0.2-0.3 mm) ceramic onlays on teeth, which are a patented development of the American company Cerinate. The main difference from conventional veneers is that they require little pre-treatment. In terms of reliability and durability, Cerinate products are just as strong as thicker overlays, but they also cost considerably more.

Advantages of lumineeres over veneers
- They are placed without grinding the tooth enamel at all or with minimal preparation. This is a key advantage over veneers, which are thicker and require preliminary grinding down of the tooth before the veneer can be fitted. With lumineers, it is possible to fix them directly onto the enamel.
- Painlessness and comfort. As there is minimal preliminary preparation, there is also no pain or other discomfort during the fitting procedure.
- It is possible to remove and replace ceramic veneers.
In addition, lumineeres are not inferior to veneers in such parameters as:
- high protective properties. The onlays fit snugly over the teeth and protect them from damage. There is almost zero risk of micro-organisms getting under the thin ceramic plate and inflammation;
- natural appearance. As required by modern aesthetic dentistry, the onlays do not differ in shape, transparency, colour and other visual parameters from natural teeth;

When are lumineers recommended?
The aesthetic dentistry specialists at our DENTART Clinic recommend ultra-thin ceramic onlays in such situations:
- there are diastemas or tremors (unaesthetic gaps between the front teeth);
- there is a dental injury: there is damage, cracks or chips;
- the dentition is subject to active abrasion;
- correction of the shape of the front teeth is required;
- there is a problem with tetracycline teeth or other discoloured tooth enamel (e.g. the enamel layer has darkened due to exposure to certain food colours or smoking).
Not suitable for children (before bite formation) or if the enamel is very sensitive and thinned. Relative (temporary) contraindications include bruxism (night grinding) and oral diseases, including caries, pulpitis, etc. The first thing you need to do is to treat them.
How are lumineers fitted?
It usually takes about a month to make the patented plates and deliver them to our clinic. That's how long it takes between the first and second stages. During this period, our doctors will make temporary structures for you to walk around with and get used to your new smile.

What oral hygiene and care is needed for lumineers?
No complicated maintenance procedures are required for ceramic onlays. The main recommendations are:
- proper oral hygiene, including brushing teeth, flossing, etc.;
- giving up bad habits (this includes being careful when eating sunflower seeds: remove the husks with your hands);
- regular visits to our specialists (to check the condition of your mouth and lumineers and perform professional hygiene).
